Toyota cars: What's new for 2007

by Aaron Gold

New pint-size Yaris, a sportier Prius, and a redo for America's best-selling car

AVALON: No major changes.

CAMRY: (photo) The best selling car in the US is all-new for 2007. Once again the mid-size Camry sedan is available in CE, LE, XLE and SE trims with either a 4-cylinder or V6 engine. A hybrid version is also available.

CAMRY SOLARA: No major changes to Camry's coupe/convertible cousin.

COROLLA: Hot-rod XRS version is dropped from the lineup.

MATRIX: XRS and all-wheel-drive versions of the Corolla-based mini-wagon are gone.

PRIUS: Front-seat-mounted side airbags and two-row side curtain airbags are now standard. A new Touring Edition (photo) sports 16" alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, high-intensity discharge headlights and a sport-tuned suspension.

YARIS: (photo) The fuel-efficient subcompact Yaris replaces the unloved Echo as Toyota's smallest and least-expensive car. It is available as a 4-door sedan and a 3-door hatchback; Canadian buyers also get a 5-door hatch.
